Ian is well known throughout the Scottish fishing community. A
fully qualified ghillie, he is an expert on fishing, and an excellent
teacher of his craft. All the ghillies we employ in various locations
are under his supervision.
A local expert, who knows particular stretches of water in his
‘local’, he will be able to guide you to the best spots.
He is your own personal guide while fishing. He will be happy to
provide you with any assistance that you may need, including rowing
boats, offering advice on which flies to use, showing you the best
places to fish as well as giving casting tuition if required. With
Ian as your guide, you are assured of expert assistance.
As well as expertly looking after our fishing guests and anglers
of all grades and skills, he will give invaluable help to the many
beginners who try their hand each year.
Safety is vital and the guidance of your ghillie must be followed
at all times. Their knowledge of the water is infallible and they
will not only increase your chance of a catch, but also provide
some expert advice. Life jackets are provided by us for boat fishing.

To fully enjoy the pleasures of fly fishing in particular, it is vital to master the essential casting and presentation skills. The only way to ensure that these skills are taught properly is to learn with a trained and qualified instructor.
Tuition is available at Kingennie Fishings for individuals or groups from our professional instructors. One hour's fly fishing tuition costs £30 per person, with children free if accompanied by a paying adult. This includes all tackle hire and tuition. Bait and spinning tuition is also available. The hour's tuition covers safety aspects, fly casting, and a question and answer session to allow pupils to improve their casting skills. Most lessons end with a trout for the table.
