MEET
THE "GHILLIE" - IAN NELSON |
I
started fishing the rivers in Lincolnshire at the age of seven.
When in my teens I fished for my county at competition level, meeting
the legendary Ivan Marks and Kevin Ashurst. Since my move to Scotland
I took up fly fishing for wild brown trout, and was taught to cast
by the late Callum Mckenzie in the Scottish Borders.
I have been most fortunate to have travelled extensively around
Scotland, fishing some of the most beautiful lochs and burns, from
the Nith in the borders to Loch Damph in Wester Ross. My largest
wild trout of 7lbs came from a small burn near Loch Kishorn.
I’ve fished for salmon on the fly for 6 years and have banked
some really nice fish, the best coming from Major Gibbs’ estate
at Inshewan, a beautiful sea liced fresh run 12lb fish. I tie all
my own flys for trout and salmon and can show guests how to cast
a line.
During my extensive time in the Rannoch and whole Highland Perthshire
area, I have come to love the area and have developed a fantastic
knowledge of all the local lochs and rivers including many lesser
known and sensational ‘hidden gems’.
Join me in some wonderful excursions and trips to fine fishing
lochs and rivers set amidst majestic unspoiled Highland scenery,
the habitat of not just salmon and grilse, brown trout, sea trout,
pike, grayling, ferox, char and perch – but also sensational
wildlife including golden eagle, osprey, red deer, pine marten and
otter. Individuals, small groups, families and young people are
all welcome. Instruction, coaching, all fishing tackle, and boats
if needed, are provided. Fly, spin and bait fishing available. We
will tailor each day to suit you.
